Cathy Boettner | Strategic Business Consultant

You have a lot on your plate and every day brings a new challenge.  You may be trying to grow your business; you may be looking to improve your internal processes; you may need to build morale and teamwork with a new team; you may be looking for an exit strategy.  I know what it’s like to run a business, and now, as a Business Consultant, I bring real world experience to every meeting.  I understand that it isn’t that you have too few options or opportunities, it’s that you have too many.  Regardless of where you find yourself, I have the experience as a former business owner and have accomplished these things myself, and I have helped other organizations accomplish them as a business consultant.

The Benefits of Strategic Business Planning

Maybe you’ve been told that strategic planning is an esoteric exercise that doesn’t provide any value.  A strategic planning process can help you sort and prioritize what will have the greatest impact on your business, and free up mind-space to allow you to work on the things that are most important to you.  I can tell you from my experience as a client, and as a business consultant, that it is truly amazing what a qualified strategic business planner can help you accomplish.  The difference that a cohesive plan can make in your organization can’t be overstated—the speed, the focus, and the improvements are well worth the time that you and your team spend on the strategic planning process.

Getting to the Root of What’s Happening with Your Business

At times, you might need someone to help you diagnose what is happening in your organization—whether you are part of a for-profit or not for profit.  A Business Management Consultant brings a fresh set of eyes and no agenda and can help you get to the root of what is really happening within your business. An experienced Business Consultant will provide an objective opinion of ways to get the organization back on track.

Experience That Makes All the Difference

Most business owners and/or managers don’t have an outlet to discuss important issues with someone who can give them a third party second opinion. Maybe they just need to bounce some ideas off of someone who has real life experience. My pragmatism and years of experience running a business separate me from many newly minted MBA business management consultants.  I’ve been there, and I’ve done that, and I can help you achieve your goals. I have worked with small non-profits and companies with revenue in excess of $100M. Nearly everyone can benefit from an experienced business consultant who can help them take their business to the next level.  I tell clients: Good is the enemy of great, and great is the enemy of what’s possible.  Are you really getting all you can get out of your organization?

Moving on – The Future of Your Business

Many business owners spend their entire careers focusing on building their business and spend little or no time planning their transition to retirement, whether that means passing on the business to a partner or family members, or whether that means that the business needs to be sold.  Either way, many of the same steps are required in order to ensure a successful and smooth transition to the new owners.  You can’t start too early on getting ready, and I recommend that you allow three years to prepare.  What is your timeline for retirement?  How are you going to get there?

Everyone needs a Mentor

You may have employees who are young and eager, but need mentoring in order for them to reach their full potential.  You don’t have the time to do it, and the coaching sessions you have had haven’t gone as well as you’d like.  Why not bring in an objective third party who can provide your managers with the feedback they need and give them an opportunity to talk with someone about the challenges that they are facing without fear of judgment, or an impact on their performance evaluation?  I work with the University of Tennessee in their executive MBA program’s Leadership Development Program and have been trained in the key leadership elements, and how to provide effective feedback.
